Corporate Leadership Has Changed
As you know, the coronavirus has affected (and infected) millions of people across the globe. And this, of course, has caused a rippling effect. Business owners and employees are suffering, possibly none more than those in the travel industry. Airlines, hotels, travel agents, bus companies, tour operators and related businesses have seen customers and clients dwindle considerably. “Normal” has changed for all of us.
We’ve learned a valuable lesson through it all — to not take any success or positive experience for granted. Savoring a dark cup of coffee, watching the fog roll in under the Golden Gate Bridge, listening to the birds chirp in Yosemite as the sun comes up, enjoying the profits of a banner year or the challenges of creating the next memorable corporate retreat — all of these, even just living a healthy lifestyle, can be taken away in a month, a week, a day or an instant.
As we grow and gain wisdom, we realize that times like these, filled with stress and heartache and mountains to climb, are when we learn the most. It’s easy to be optimistic when everything is going well; it’s a little harder with profits disappearing and bills still coming in.
When Will Travel Rebound?
Honestly, we are unsure, and we, along with the rest of the world, are waiting for clues and signals for when. Like Dorothy on the yellow-brick road, we are waiting for what comes around the next corner, hoping the Wicked Witch doesn’t find us first.
For Covid? We’ll do what needs to be done to remain safe. Cleaning vehicles, wearing and requiring masks, temperature checks — those steps are now standard as requests, and we will continue to innovate as everyone adjusts to the new “normal.” Even postponing our Bay Area corporate retreats as necessary to remain safe.
Leadership Ambition
We may have received a Mike Tyson punch and are currently on our hands and knees, with the ref counting to ten, yet we are not asleep with the birds circling above our head yet. Instead, we are blessed with the gift to innovate, and know we only lose when we throw in the towel.
Most of all, if we do falter, we are grateful to be able to look up and see our friends, family and our San Francisco community in our corner for support — and to know we’ll always retain our gift of the knowledge and determination that compels us to share our home with others, and the spirit to rebuild.
On any long journey what may seem devastating at the time, may in retrospect be what helps a person or business grow the most. For now, this pandemic and the aftermath may seem painful, ruthless and relentless. But in the end, it has the ability to shape our character for the better, and that aspect of the crisis we welcome.
We wish your family, friends and loved ones the best during these challenging times.
Travel safe (when it’s safe to travel again).
